On Jan. 6 at an indoor track meet in Dublin, Healy torched the M55+ 3,000m world record by 11 seconds, clocking a jaw-dropping eight minutes and 47 seconds.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Congratulations to Shane Healy (MSB AC) who this afternoon broke the Men\u2019s O55 3000m World Record at the National League in NIA, Abbotstown \ud83d\udc4f\ud83c\udffb<\/p>\n<p>Healy clocked a time of 8.47.71 to take over ten seconds off the previous record which stood at 8.58 \ud83e\udd29<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcf8 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SportsfileSam?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sportsfilesam<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IrishRunner?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IrishRunner<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kaY1Kf6Z3R\">pic.twitter.com\/kaY1Kf6Z3R<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Irish Runner (@IrishRunnerMag) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IrishRunnerMag\/status\/1743705927306334464?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 6, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Healy placed sixth in his 3,000m heat, beating several runners a third of his age. His record-setting time surpassed the previous indoor mark set by German runner <strong>Guenther Hasselmann<\/strong> 44 years ago. Healy&#8217;s time was also quicker than the 3,000m outdoor record of 8:56.80, set by Australian<strong> Keith Bateman<\/strong> in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>For many distance runners, breaking nine minutes for 3,000m is a significant milestone, yet Healy is doing it by a landslide at 55 years old, which is mind-blowing. In 1996, Healy represented Ireland at the Atlanta Olympics in the men&#8217;s 1,500m, where he made the semi-final.
