Nanaimo, B.C.’s Ethan Katzberg<\/strong> made history on Sunday night<\/a> at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, becoming the first Canadian to win a medal in the hammer throw event at the Olympics. Katzberg’s first throw of 84.12 metres put him in the lead for the remainder of the competition, and he never looked back.<\/p>\n

In a post-event interview with Canadian Running<\/em>, Katzberg said winning Olympic gold is something he and his coach, Dylan Armstrong,<\/strong> have thought about since winning the world title last year in Budapest.<\/p>\n

“It’s been the only thing we’ve been thinking about the last 12 months,” said Armstrong, a former Canadian Olympic shot-putter himself. “He knows he can throw that far, and I told him to try and take control right away so that everyone may tense up a bit, and I think they did.”<\/p>\n
