Some runners try deep breathing. Others visualize happy places. Photo: Nike<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Kipyegon prepares for her sub-four-minute mile attempt (Breaking4) in Paris on June 26, she shared her go-to strategy for squashing nerves during a press conference organized by Nike. &#8220;I watch funny movies to help me relax and get my mind off things,&#8221; Kipyegon revealed. &#8220;More specifically, Nigerian comedies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While others visualize race tactics or doze off into a pre-race nap, Kipyegon takes a lighter route, and it turns out, science is on her side. <a href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/is-laughing-good-for-you\">According to Cleveland Clinic psychologist <strong>Dr. Grace Tworek<\/strong><\/a>, laughter activates the parasympathetic nervous system\u2013the body\u2019s built-in chill mode, easing the anxious fight-or-flight reflex and inviting clarity in its place. For Kipyegon, the movies are not just entertainment; they\u2019re a reset button.<\/p>\n<p>Next week\u2019s attempt is part of Nike\u2019s Breaking4 campaign (a parallel to <strong>Eliud Kipchoge\u2019s<\/strong> Breaking2 marathon project in 2017) and will take place at Paris\u2019s Stade S\u00e9bastien Charl\u00e9ty. Her current mile world record stands at 4:07.64, nearly eight seconds off the four-minute barrier. \u201cI know it\u2019s not going to be easy, but I believe it\u2019s possible,\u201d said Kipyegon on the challenge. \u201cBreaking4 would be my legacy. I want to show people that a woman can do what a man can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old said she and her longtime coach,<strong> Patrick Sang,<\/strong> haven\u2019t changed much around her training in preparation for the record attempt. \u201cWe\u2019re doing the same workouts I did before the Paris Olympics,\u201d she said. \u201cI see him like a father.
