In May, the Quebec native showed off his range by <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/charles-philibert-thiboutot-breaks-canadian-10k-record-in-ottawa\/\">taking the national title at his Canadian 10K Championships debut<\/a> in Ottawa, running a new national record of 28:06. Photo: Kevin Morris<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>A deep men&#8217;s field<\/h2>\n<p>After claiming his first World Marathon Major title at last year&#8217;s race,<a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/abdi-nageeye-becomes-first-dutch-athlete-to-win-tcs-new-york-city-marathon\/\"><strong> Abdi Nageeye<\/strong><\/a> of the Netherlands is back, set to defend his title, boasting a PB and national record of 2:04:20. Threatening his title are four athletes who have dipped under 2:04:00:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Olympic bronze medallist <strong>Benson Kipruto<\/strong> of Kenya leads the field with a PB of 2:02:16 from just last year<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deresa Geleta<\/strong> of Ethiopia, the 2025 Zurich Seville Marathon champion, boasts a best time of 2:02:38,<\/li>\n<li>Kenya&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/evans-chebet-aiming-for-three-peat-at-2024-boston-marathon\/\">Evans Chebet<\/a><\/strong>, last year&#8217;s runner-up after a tight battle with Nageeye in the final kilometre, enters with a personal best of 2:03:00.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kenya&#8217;s <strong>Albert Korir<\/strong> (2:06:57), last year&#8217;s bronze medallist, is also set to toe the line. Photo: Kevin Morris<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>A women&#8217;s rivalry<\/h2>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winner, Kenya\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/kenyas-sheila-chepkirui-charges-to-victory-at-new-york-city-marathon\/\"><strong>Sheila Chepkirui<\/strong><\/a>, enters with a 2:17:29 and will look to claim her second World Marathon Major title. Challenging her are compatriots <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/sharon-lokedi-smashes-boston-marathon-course-record\/\"><strong>Sharon Lokedi<\/strong><\/a>, the 2025 Boston Marathon champion, and <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/hellen-obiri-wins-her-second-consecutive-boston-marathon\/\"><strong>Hellen Obiri<\/strong><\/a>, runner-up at the 2024 NYC and 2025 Boston races.
