Sunday marked the 20th edition of the Antarctic Ice Marathon<\/a>, and it was notable for more than just its long history: for the first time ever, a woman claimed the outright race title.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Catherine Drysdale\u00a0<\/strong>dominated freezing conditions (-8 C, “feels like” -18 C) and a very snowy course in Union Glacier, Antartica, finishing in three hours, 48 minutes and 43 seconds. Her performance beat the entire field\u2013men and women\u2013by more than six minutes.<\/p>\n
